In a word, we agree with Matthew Henry who followed the patristic interpretation of this passage and referred it to "The Incarnation of Christ. In the first verse of the oracle before us the Messiah has assumed the title of the Head of the Nations, so as to indicate precisely the addition, so central to the verses now before us, of Gentiles to the original Jews in the church of the new testament.
